Tracy Barlow Scholarship Objectives

The objectives of the scholarship therefore are:

  • To establish relationships with Colleges and Universities that could be potential educational partners for the National Association of Retail Buyers
  • Encourage interest among college students in retailing as a career

How Scholarships are Awarded

Scholarships are awarded to colleges and universities, who select scholarship recipients based on the undergraduate scholarship tuition described below.

If you are a student interested in receiving a scholarship, please contact a faculty member at your college or university and provide them with the College / University criteria listed below.

Colleges or Universities interested in applying for a scholarship should send a letter signed by a College or University official outlining how it meets the college or university criteria and its commitment to comply with the student criteria.

Criteria for Colleges / Universities to Receive Scholarship Funds

  • Must be a potential educational partner for NARB
  • Must be willing to comply with the student criteria
  • Colleges or Universities must have a formal retailing curriculum: which can include visual merchandising, product developments and design, buying, retail management, merchandise and store planning and online retail or e-commerce
  • Colleges or Universities should have a track record of its students being hired into the retail industry
  • Scholarship selection must be made by a university selection committee through in-person interviews intended to assess the individual's motivation, character, ability, interest in retail or e-commerce and potential to advance the retail industry

Criteria for Undergraduate Students to Receive Tuition Scholarships

  • The scholarship should be given to undergraduate students who have earned at least half of the total number of credits needed for graduation
  • The scholarships should be awarded to students who demonstrate a strong interest in e-commerce or online retailing demonstrated through coursework and/or work experience
  • The student should show high levels of prior academic performance (minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale)
  • Students should receive recommendations from instructors
  • Students should demonstrate leadership in the community or on campus
